I did this exact job two years ago but I pulled the engine. Trust me, you will be saving yourself TONS of time by pulling it first. I can almost guarantee that any time you might gain by not pulling it would be wasted many times over by trying to fight with any number of different parts in incredibly cramped spaces. Once it's out it's also much easier to clean everything, and you can even change the oil pan gasket and motor mounts with great ease if those are things that are on your to-do list.
