Ironic:
in my fathers memoirs, he described living near a busy military airport outside Alamogordo NM.
One morning he noticed there were no planes taking off which was really strange.
Then the entire sky got really bright and white.
It lasted for several minutes and then faded back to normal, the radio said it was a weather anomaly.
That was in July 1945.
He was far enough away not to see the actual mushroom cloud from the trinity test, but he saw the reflection and light from it.
When I was a kid dad worked at Hercules Inc. where they made rocket engines and explosives.
We'd go up there once in a while to watch one of the rocket motor test-firings.
We knew better than to go past that fence in the picture, but it was tempting.
