I took off the ABS of my '99 because of poor performance on imperfect surfaces causing it to go into freewheel mode & loosing any control of the braking. Weight savings is secondary, I had the early version so maintenance was not too difficult. Fortunately the brakes are excellent without the mush that was ABS on mine. The newer power brake version is more difficult to service & to remove as brake light & speedo is integral with it.
