I've had a similar issue with every single car I've owned.

Finally dawned on me that it happens whenever I bumped the stalk where the wipers and cruise controls are.

Seems whoever supplies them to auto manufacturers makes a ****ty product and they all tend to flip up and down with the slightest touch.

Now the first thing I do when I get a new ride is super glue it in place.

Problem solved.
