Rick one of my brother's favorite stories is at deer camp, one of the dumb drunks (any other kind?) that tripped on his bow quiver and stuck a broad-head up under his ribs and was bleeding like a stuck pig. He got the bleeding to stop with pressure and after a while decided he needed to sterilize it with a splash of the whiskey he was drinking.
He said in the movies John Wayne would grit his teeth and make a light sucking sound as he dosed the wound. My brother and his friends were kind of worried about the guy and asked if they should just break camp and take him to the hospital. He decided to go ahead and dose the wound with whiskey, both internal and external.
My brother said the were sure the dummy was OK when he let out a scream and started running around holding the wound and screaming profanity. After 30 minutes everyone ELSE was laughing so hard they could not catch their breath from watching his reaction to the pain of his own doings.
He said that whiskey on a open wound hurts way more than John Wayne makes it look like. Well duh.
