Personally I think i may be the wide shoulders on the 944 that appeals to people. The 911 is instantly recognizable, and the fact that I'm driving an older one may appear less valuable to others who have new ones, or know people who have newer ones.
The 944 is a short lived (compared to 911) model and people are less familiar with it. it seems to be something that people don't see on the road very often. A porsche they don't know.
