Around 1988 the big three german manufactures all showed up to the table with 4 valves per cylinder
Audi came out with the 20 valve turbo. One of the best all time motors ever in my opinion
BMW came out with the M 3 and M5, and 6 with twin cam
Porsche came out with the 944S and S2
So in my opinion huge gains on the 944 from the base 83 to the 89 944S2 compared to minimal 911 improvements
