While on a trip to Israel I had several meetings in a room on the 5th floor of our hotel. I had noticed an odd looking vent/register out in the hallway, and once I sat down inside I tried to figure out what the round device below was for:

Years ago, I saw an episode of house hunters international that was in Jerusalem. Most of the high rise apts that they showed the folks had bomb shelter rooms.

It was very hard to imagine living like that. But, if you only know that one way of living, and you don't know any other way, it's normal.
