3.2 crankshaft
Hi Gentlemen,
Some time ago I bought a 72 ST replica with all the right parts. It has a 3.2 (standard) engine with SSI and PMO's and all was fine until it spun a bearing and whole engine got damaged. Engine is open and metal everywhere.
Only parts worth keeping are case and heads.
Could just go for a replacement 3.2 but that is expensive and adds nothing
Since i need to redo everything the plan is to build a very healthy 3.4 (double ign, 3.4 cylinders, cams, Paurter rods....)
Big issue is the crankshaft. I learned very fast it cant be found second hand, cant be found in aftermarket but could be bought new for crazy price.
I am a bit puzzled now. Option I see are:
1}Start from another 3.2. This has also very high price tach to start with and that engine does not come with a warranty
2) buy new crank. this thing is 8000$. Engine will be 25000 on parts alone but will be more or less new
3)Buy a good rebuild one from reputable shop and sell my case and heads.
4) Find a good machinist who can rebuild crancs. I already located a good crank with one journal under-size.
5) get into a corner and keep crying
I am looking for direction here. Again the plan is to put a strong engine in the car and budget is up to 30.000 $ max. If I must put that amount of money into that car it has to come from a reputable engine builder.
I have a good shop here in Belgium and am 100 miles away from Germany. Problem is I dont know many good shops there since I cant really read German. Should have stayed with the American iron.
So please, give me advice what you would do in my situation and with my budget.
Solutions, good shops in Europe, engines for sale or nice aftermarket solutions. Much to chose from huh...
Thanks for the help.
