The engine is not that bad. They're only around 1,200 in parts to rebuild. Including new pistons/jugs/crank/flywheel, with assorted bearings, and seals. Very comparable to rebuilding a type 1 / 2 vw.
The torque is something to be desired; a lot of it!!!
The Buell I totaled, ended up on craigslist 8 months later for $3500 with a rebuild title. It sold quick. If the one you're looking at is comparable in price, I would not hesitate to buy it...
