Retracing My Fathers Steps...
So I came up with an idea to take a trip with my Son for a graduation present...retrace my Dads travel from bootcamp in San Antonio to where he fought during the Battle of the Bulge.
Problem is, he is 92 years old and doesn't really remember all the details. I know about when he served and with the 86th Blackhawk, the 88th Blue Devil and finished out with the 102nd Ozark of the 406 Infantry. I guess solders would transfer a lot back then? I know that during training he fell off a cliff and busted a leg, his division shipped out with him in a hospital and they all died. Then he and a bunch were redeployed for more fighting which is why he ended up with the 102. I know he earned a Bronze Star for something on or around Nov 20, 1944 and was injured during the BoB on or around mid Januray 1945. I also know he was in France, Belgium, England and Germany but I do not know the time frames or locations.
I know his ASN number. Is there any way to pour through record to be able to know where he was and when? does the military keep such records?
