We have a large population of rat snacks, copper heads, and the occasional cotton mouth.
Every spring the uninformed idiots around here are quick to whack the head off anything that slithers which is more often the beneficial rat snakes.
If you are seeing snakes then there is most likely a food source like rodents.
Snakes, venomous and non keep the disease carrying rodent population in check.
Rat snakes are also known to eat young copperheads.
It's in everyone's best interest to learn how to identify venomous and non venous (beneficial) snakes and not go killing anything that moves.
