So Your all saying don't buy Porsche OEM Parts then Correct .
Ok So nobody like's the Porsche Dealer Parts and some think they don't know what they are doing with a 928 Model
Lets see the Car in Question is a 1986 S Model 928
The Original Pump failed or perhaps was just replaced at a Porsche Audi Dealer in the year 2000
along with Timing Belt , Rollers and Tensioner gaskets and seals and the like
Fast Forward to 2015 well now 2016 and I buy the Car with Water Pump Noise coming from Front of Motor . Doesn't Bother me much as 50 Year Line Mechanic Union Status I pull it down and look at the plastic Impeller Slight Polish Marks on the block and note the Defective Bearing . All Looks Fine except for the water Pump now with a bad Bearing . I do Note the Wear on the Back side of the Plastic Composite type Impeller as well as the Wear corresponding on the Pump itself due to the Impeller not running true with bearing failed .
So Just my Guess but expect the OEM Porsche Bearing failed in the ATC Rebuilt pump now some 15 Years old . Humm Perhaps the Rebuilt Pump lasted 9 Years longer then the original Pump . Having replaced some 3 928 Pumps now not a lot but 3 is 3 I understand the poor design of the 928 Belt related to many Issues regarding Failings toward the Front of engine
Cam's Pumps Bearings as well as the Motor itself .
is it just Luck ? Perhaps so but all the Previously Installed Rebuilt Pumps I Installed are still running just fine so far . Last one 6 Year's ago .
Now I never Bought a Known Cheap China Pump but stuck with the Factory Type Bearing Pumps . Yes I understand Many here are have found the great Pumps now Available like the Guardian most Likely high up on the scale . Looks Fantastic to me that's for sure .
I don't mind being thought of as a Modern Day Idiot when My Posts are read . When I am driving my 1980 928 5 Spd I paid $300 cash for after it sat 15 Years under a tree with a failed
Injection Relay Invoking into a need for a front End Motor Refresh due to all the sitting when the bearing Stuck until the Motor Got Hot after I started it up then Broke free but made Noise as the bearing Failed .
Another 1986 928 S comes along with some 68 K Miles , More Money @ 2K But cheap for the condition as I see it rust free and straight with so so Interior. A running Car with quite Motor but with the Noise Up Front . So waiting for the Parts and Back on the road she go's
to Bad Its a Automatic Trans But what the heck the wife can drive it .
I Hope all who Hate anything other then what they Like < a wide assortment as I see it .
I well think of you perhaps a time or 2 as I wait for next Brake down lol
I doubt it well be a broken Block from a Plastic Impeller like the Laso or Porsche now sells
But the Proof is in the pudding as they say
I can't help wondering how much Money member's here would say I should have put into ether of these 928 Now in the Garage ? . I do Know People keep asking me to work on their cars
and ask me to keep them in mind if I want to sell any of my 928 Cars ?
No Doubt they would sell fast . Just sold the 90 911 C4 as well as a 76 450SL for some Large Dollar amount . Perhaps I well Buy a House / Vacation Spot in the Philippines with the Money ?
sounds like a Plan . Or Perhaps I well reconsider and get a Guardian Type Pump and a Gold Searing wheel and the like ?
Thanks for all the support and I do truly apologize for all out their that don't like OEM Porsche Parts under their Hood .
At Least I don't want or have a Chev Motor under mine
