A 2 year warrantly is nice but be cautious here. You're talking about saving around $165 but taking a bit of a gamble, in my view. Let's say your $189 pump fails, what good is a warranty-replacement pump if your engine is wrecked? The WP warranty will not cover other damage due to a pump failure. If it fails and you manage to get away without other engine damage, what's to say Porsche will replace it with a good quality one?
It's an expensive business this 928 love affair of ours but don't cheap out. Is it really worth it to save a few bucks and take a risk on something that could kill your car? If it was a wiper motor or a fuel pump, sure, take a chance. Something as critical as a water pump, no freakin' way.
