Maybe those so quick to condemn should get more of the story here:
Anti-gov't protesters march through Burns
These men had already been to prison for their "crime" of burning 126 acres to control an invasive species. They served their sentences, were then released. A Federal prosecutor then went to a judge claiming their original sentence wasn't time enough. A federal Judge agreed.
The two news sources linked in the original post seem to neglect mentioning this part of the story, which really brought about the protests.
