Hey, Mike is my friend, but he does do random stuff. Having driven the car as a Targa, I was flat horrified by his plan to convert the car.
Having seen the result, I am not horrified. I am impressed. Mike chose a top body/paint guy to do the conversion, and it's pretty much undetectable. I b*tched at him for skipping popouts in favor of fixed quarter windows, but otherwise, the conversion is really excellent. Targas have extra strengthening in the corners of the cabin, and so as a "Couga," the chassis is stiffer than a stock coupe.
I see a lot of "hacked" early cars and Targa-to-cab and even coupe-to-cab conversions are not that uncommon. This is my first experience with a Targa-to-coupe conversion, though I'm sure it's been done before...
