Yes they are, John. They were the driving force behind moly coated bullets, teflon coated bullets, and untold new profiles. All of the modern "short magnum" cases owe their stubby shapes to the benchrest game. The really sharp (like 40 degree) shoulders started there as well. Nothing like dimpled golf balls, though... at least not yet...
Oh, and Vash, the .257 was Roy's personal favorite.
