Ya' that's a turbo engine, and if it's really a 1977 Turbo then it didn't come with an intercooler, so someone added one of the lame stockers to it at some point.
No doubt that wider is better, with regard to tires (and a few other things

), but the bottom line is the skinny tires are not a problem if the operator uses some common sense. Just idle chitter-chatter, though, since there are no details on the accident (maybe a sniper took out one of the tires

).
PS - that said, those things can still surprise you even when you've had a lot of seat time in them; I've had numerous "whoopsie" moments, when showing off for passengers, that left me saying "oh ya' I meant to do that".
