Having spent 20 years selling tires from '78 - '98, I've never seen the point in buying cheap tires. The good ones will still last most of us several years - many of us will replace them due to age, not wear. So the difference per year in a set of $300 tires compared to a a set of $600 tires is not that big a deal, really. Buy the ones you'd really like to have, not the ones that are cheap but OK.
