Yes, the suction cups do leave round marks on the glass. They wipe off. I moisten the surface of the suction cups on mine with a slight smear of saliva and they never, ever come loose unless I want them to. Also, I prefer to mount my V1 down low, right above the dash. What matters, though, is that the V1 is a very effective device, however one mounts it.

I figure that mounted up high (usually beside the rear view mirror) in a short car means that other folks, other than those in other low cars, won't be able to see it. I've always used a straight cable, like a black telephone cord (not coiled) and routed it around the windshield trim to the rear view mirror. I also wouldn't want the cable hanging down. If I use the thing for whatever reason with the coiled cable that plugs into the cig lighter, then yes, I usually put it low to avoid the cable.
