No doubt the biggest reason I have my car is the fun of autocross or the occasional track DE day. I long ago quit caring about going fastest, I just love buying tires. I have never owned a car with enough HP to spin the tires. I think the stupidest thing possible to do to tires is do a burnout. I just don't understand the fascination with burnouts or doing donuts.Paul Newman said something like taking a 40 MPH corner and 39.99 MPH and get through that is way better than driving fast in a straight line.
I don't care a whit that other drivers in more modern cars can take that same corner at 50 MPH. ABS, stability control is doing a lot of the driving on those cars. To dive a 30 year old 911 with zero driving aids is just the driver getting through corner, not the car.
How many other 30 year old cars can drive over 1000 miles to Monterey and spend a week driving around at the sights, spend an hour on track at Laguna Seca and then drive home with nothing but adding gas.
