Vasa only moved 1,300 meters before it sunk.

The ship was very unstable, and many people knew this. Before leaving the quay the captain let 30 men run forth and back over the ship. When turning the third time the ship was about the tip already.
If the cannonports had been closed during the first trip the mishap maybe could have been avoided. But nobody knows.

30 of the about 150 people abord (including women and children) drowned.
