For starters, let me explain what it is and what it does.
That is a vacuum reserve canister. When the engine is at idle, it sucks some of the air out of that canister for use when you are on the gas and vacuum is limited. This is more of an issue in a turbo car than an NA. It helps to maintain a set vacuum in the climate control system.
The vacuum that is held in reserve operates the climate control system. If it was removed in a turbo car, every time you got into boost, the heater valve and flap actuators would move from the boost. If removed in an NA, you would most likely notice changing temperatures and airflow because of the vacuum changes at various throttle positions and RPM ranges.
So... in a nutshell, you don't want to take it out.
