Succession planning....

Last year two of us in our condo board lobbied hard to get rid of our management co.
as we were in an in trust agreement with them plus they did not do a great job.

We were looking for a regular relationship that is not in trust. We interviewed three companies and selected one owner who had the most experience(30 years) but happened to be the oldest - about 70 round about my age.

He has been managing us since last September. A week ago he died of a heart attack. Tonight is the first board meeting without him. The accountant is going to be at the meeting instead.

Unfortunately he was a smoker. Much like my father I could smell cigarette smoke on him three feet away. We have a retired nurse who lives on the end of the block. I asked her if she went for yearly medicals. She answered no. Do you take your blood pressure. Answered no.

What have I learned from this? Get a regular medical. People like bus. partners, lawyers that you do business with ideally should be medically fit. Life goes on if you look after yourself.....
