Jeeps of that era have really low gearing to make up for the lack of engine TQ, also to do what they were designed for............. go over rough terrain and climb hills. Like to the tune of 4:56 and lower. The drive train is pretty robust considering the power plant, but some of the really early trans do not have a synchronized 1st gear. They have 2-peice rear axles that are prone to breakage when dropping in larger engine.
Lastly, obviously rust ......................................eveywhere
