Bob, it was a close one for "Longest Drive" aka- "ridiculous drive??".
Here is mapquest showing me at 1155 miles. although, i cut over to the coast north of San Francisco and followed the Pacific Coast highway and the 101 up to Oregon, then cut back to I-5. Not sure how many more miles this actually added. It definitely added time as the roads are a lot more twisty, and motorhomes/ tourists/ construction/ and big trucks tried to get in my way. I left early enough and drove hard enough that I had almost a full day to relax and unwind (and NOT drive) in Issaquah before the tour began Saturday morning.
On the way back to LA, I drove the Oregon and California coast, and 101 back to SF, then got on the interstate for a rapid blast SF to LA.; stopping just long enough for a couple of sunset photos.
I had a great time. Thanks to all that spent time and energy (and gasoline) planning out the weekend roads.
Tim had a big grin all weekend too!! (not just when the cute waitress was around)
