Boost always at 1.8bar
First sorry for the duplicate post (also on the 951 forum).
I have been working on my 87 951, and have her running and almost sorted out, but one thing scares me from starting and running it. The boost. When I start the car, the boost guage goes to about 1.8 on the stock boost gauge, and doesn't really move in all RPM range from idle to high revs. Rarely will is stay stable at 1.6-1.7 or so, just below the 1.8 mark on the gauge. I haven't invested in an aftermarket gauge, but I would like some insight on where to look at. This is my first turbo, so still learning about how turbos work. It is almost stock, it had a LR boost enhancer that I did not put back in after the rebuild, it now has a K&N filter, and a Dansk exhaust, an aftermarket BOV and that's all I know of for upgrades. I did try and blow in the BOV, and I can't get air anywhere, seems to be stuck shut? And when rev the car by hand, I don't hear the BOV working, nor do I hear the wastegate. Maybe I'll put the stock one in that came with the car to see if that chafes anything. Had an engine fire, and replaced all vacuum lines with a Venturi delete. From what I have read, a stuck shut waste gate can cause overboost. Is there a way I can check to see if it is stuck closed? Thanks for your help.
