I feel your pain and raise it a bit: welding on a rusty old 1970 240Z (even when you remove as much rust as you can) tends to shoot out big, hot sparks that have a nasty habit of going for your crotch.
I wear a welding jacket, gloves, hat, along with the helmet, but I'm in the market for welding trousers.
