They were banned in the weld shop I used to work at. Some were fine, many were not, and it is too big a risk to take with your eyes.
They often switch too slowly, which is not a problem for casual users, but is a big problem for production welders.

Interesting, I have been thinking about picking up an auto darkening helmet. However, I am quite used to using my old flip front , been doing it like this for 20 years now.
Wonder how many flashes your eye can take before you sun burn them. Occasionally, when I am tacking something, I will catch a little flash, never seems to bother me much .
I am careful now though, I flashed myself really good when I first started, and I never want to feel that pain again . I think I'd take a good kick in the nuts before welders flash .
