A while back I had a similar issue - I needed a Vankomyacin (sp?) drip for an infection that got into the bones in my feet. The insurance said no home nursing, stay in the hospital.

I hate hospitals and had nothing else wrong with me. I talked to my doctor and she spent a good half hour yelling at various insurance reps over the phone until they relented!

Enlist the doc(s) as her advocate. Can't hurt.
