Every spring my last golden would did holes over a foot deep in flower beds, next to the house, and next to trees. There would be a toad in the bottom where she stopped digging. She was taught to do this by the Dalmatian next door.
They say owls, snakes, racoons, and skunks. Have an owl that roosts in the cottonwood in my back yard. Have also had to treat my last golden twice for getting sprayed by a skunk. Haven't seen any racoons, and the snakes around here are just little grass snakes. Have seen a neighborhood cat kill a rabbit.
There is a lot of plants in the flower bed next to the front porch it would be easy for a large toad to hide in. Also have a little toad statue on the other end of my porch that is the size of a regular toad. My porch is very long.
