DFS 40

The DFS 40 was designed in 1937 as an all-wing aircraft to allow as many comparisons of different versions of tailless aircraft. The DFS 40 was propelled by a 100 hp Argus engine and was flown by Heini Dittmar at the DFS in Darmstadt in 1939. It showed remarkable performance.
After Lippisch's departure from the DFS in 1939, a miscalculation in the CG caused the aircraft to enter a flat spin and the aircraft was destroyed. The pilot managed to bail out safely.
