Chumlee plays the low-life lazy dummy because that's the role they gave him to play, and he does it very well.
but it ain't real any more than Don Knotts was as dumb and goofy as Barney Fife.

I have no idea if he's a POS in real life, but if they busted him with meth that would be a pretty strong clue.
