I have 3 japanese abacus, (that one is chinese) they actually are very fast, but you have to know you times tables (1-10) to multiply/divide. My boy is fast on it, japanese students can see the abacus in their mind.
Best one for me is still the girl at HD that needed a calculator to figure out the linear feet for 14, ten foot pieces of baseboard.
