The only possible negative about removing the console in your case is that most lose the AC controls which can turn on the fan for the AC. Big deal, right? Maybe, but the air from that AC fan exits the front and centre dash vents. It might be nice to have that extra air flow in a car with no AC and I'm pretty sure it's only the evaporator fan air that comes out that vent.
It'd be kinda cool to have the non-AC car's complete HVAC system in there...
