I really like our 2011 Lexus RX350. It is the one without the Darth Vader grill. Mpg in Imperial gallons is 25 but with US gallons would be around 20-21 mpg. I love the smooth ride and very quiet. I feel totally safe in it. Bought it 2 years ago and have no regrets. I did not buy new as it was too much $$$. I bought the extended warranty and expect reliability and has been reliable so far.
I tried BMW X1 and the VW Tiguan. They drive totally different from the RX and feel sportier but I wanted rock solid dependability first. The RX has a spare tire which I consider important on long trips.
