Out of sheer curiosity, can someone explain what that plastic dome thing is under the front hood on my 2004 C4S? Is it related to the gas tank? Maybe related to the 4wd system?

I know the 4S (and turbo as well?) have this reconfigured front trunk, so my money is on 4wd-related, but I'd love to know more.

Thanks!
