In my build thread I explain my motor selection and the reasoning behind it. The most important part of the build for me was to make sure that I could easily replicate it. Meaning that all parts would be available in a timely manner, not having to rely on used parts.
I would also challenge you to "build" a comparable motor to mine for a "lot less", meaning not just surfing eBay for the most powerful used motor someone is dumping for $2k, but built fresh with new bearings etc. to make a reliable 480 HP. Something you would warranty for a customer.
I purchased the motor and controller kit which includes everything needed to run the motor plus shipped to my door in 2 days for $7,836.79. As I said it makes 480 horsepower and is basically stock with a camshaft upgrade and no aftermarket tuning. Plus has a 2 year warranty.
Don't forget that time is money so weather you are paying someone to do it or you do it yourself, that is an added expense.

Its all good and I understand, either way the time put in will effectively add up.
I agree with you and I will take you up on that challenge in due time.
