Love all those roads, have done them on my motorcycles many many times, and a couple in my M3, but never in my Porsche. The Army moved me to the PNW about 4 months before I finished the restoration. When I am stationed on the East Coast again, is a guaranteed destination.
+1 on the Cherohala and Foothills, they are much better roads for sweepers and speed. The dragons tail can be exhausting 318 turns in 11 miles. Nothing on the tree of shame for me, but I did have a bad wreck on the East bound Cherohala on a downhill reverse radius left hand turn, someone coming the opposite direction (drunken hilbillie in an old impala) came over the line, clipped me in a peg grinding lean and I low sided at about 80MPH. Full riding suit with padding, walked away with tons of bruising and two cracked vertebrae, mainly from bike tumbling on me. Sadly, this guy kept driving about a mile or two on the TN side hit a father and son on their Goldwings. The father lost his life, the son his legs....
A few times I was on my bike there must have been a P car group doing a run, passed about 75 911's 914's and others. Cant wait to get back East. HIGHLY recommend these roads.
