I've taken tons of pics over the years, but I still like to from time to time. Honestly, the best time to do it is when it's near a quarter moon. In my new digs, I'm waiting for the right time to catch it when it is rising. I think that'll make for a much more interesting shot than when it's by itself.
The other night, I was curious to see if I could get Jupiter and the 4 Gallilean moons. It's not a pretty photo, but it mostly came out. Getting the focus right is a bear.
If you've got binoculars, and decent eyes, you should be able to see them too.
