My wife has a Thule rack on her Civic, with the J brackets. They're ok, but do require lifting each boat up onto the roof, which she can't do by herself. They're reasonably stable, but I wouldn't put anything but a plastic boat on them. The beauty of the cheap J brackets is there's enough room for 2 boats, and 2 bikes on her roof.
Rollers would be the easiest to load, and unload with. Especially since your roof height is probably head level to you, and hard to lift a boat up onto.
