Interesting, thanks for the reply dtw.
For anyone curious, I talked with my mechanic this morning and it was definitely an original 997 water pump installed on my M96 3.6L engine (gasket hadn't been snipped and markings on the pump and engine housing matched too well to be a replacement).
So there you have it.
