Typically there is a very small circuit embedded in the harness of the MAF converting the MAF output into a signal the original barn door meter would deliver. This way it is plug-and-play. Quite a few guys over here have done that conversion and I was thinking about it (but pulled the trigger on a 964 motor in the mean time)
