It vibrated the first car apart- the reports I heard were that hydraulic lines, possibly for a front to rear interconnected suspension were resonating and causing all sorts of problems. They lost 6 months remaking the crankshaft to help the vibrations. It's a poor design from a purely engine standpoint but one must remember it is also part of the chassis so being short and a 90 degree angle gave best stiffness.
