Not just 12-point. M8 triple square. A regular 12-point Allen wrench will strip the heads--the points are not quite the right size or shape for the socket in the bolt head. If you have these original-style bolts (check to make sure!!), get the right tool. I think we carry it, and so does any shop that specializes in Bugs. Get the "CV Joint socket". They use the same type of fastener as we do.

BTW, the same type of bolt is also used to hold the fan to the fan hub of many (but not all!) 914s.
