Cayenne isn't ugly really. It is smooth and modern. I think it should have looked "tougher" - squareish, I guess. I like some views of it.
I guess the killer for me is the lights. The front should be something else than 996/Boxster. Tougher or sleeker? I don't know, but different. The Boxster lights were a great look on the prototype way back when, when people were first integrating aero lights onto new cars. But they should never have gone onto the 911 or Cayenne.
I guess I have never warmed up enough to the 996, and the Cayenne is suffering for it. Maybe I just need time. It already looks better to my eyes than it did a year ago.
Like I said above, my wife usually has a better/quicker ability to appreciate new looks. I'm stuck with a Platonic problem - the farther a car gets from THE CAR I have in mind (Doyen), the less I like it.
Thus all Porsches should look like 356/911's and all Ferrari's like 246 Dinos/512/308s.
