When 18 checked out a barber shop I had overheard my cousin talking about. It was a little one chair shop in the basement of an old hotel. Went in and the old man barber was sitting in the chair reading a paper. Asked if I could get a hair cut. He looked at his watch and made the comment that there was enough time before the next appointment so he could work me in. As I sat down he locked the front door and went thru a back door telling me to just relax the shampoo girl would be right in. The barber then came out, unlocked the front door and proceeded to cut my hair chatting like barbers do, like nothing unusual had happened. Gave me his card and said I might want to call for an appointment next time to make sure he was available.
