I was there when Sid got the Tesla test drive. I did it too. That is one tiny little car but it was like a forever first gear. At an autocross track it was a hoot.

Back in the late 1970s I was driving my stock 914 2.0 and a guy in a 914 with large flares flagged me down. We chatted a while and he was a Air Force pilot and a bachelor. He spent all is money on his car and living at on base at the BOQ. I had never seen large flares on a 914 before then. It was a factory steel GT flare kit. The engine sounded funny or not funny, just way different than mine. His 914 was a factory 914 6 that while he was living in Germany he over reved the engine and bent some valves and he decided to save time and do an engine swap. As I remember he had a 2.8 liter 911 engine in it. It was a very high compression competition engine some German builder stuck in it. It was a monster.

A few weeks later I was in Atlanta at a Peachstate region PCA track day at Road Atlanta. A guy was there with his old used 911. It was a real RSR that in that era was just a used car. I got a ride for a few laps around the old Road Atlanta circuit before there was a chicane on the back straight. The guy was an senior airline pilot for Pan Am back in the good ol days of huge salaries for airline pilots. He had a 908 also. No rides for that car.

Also at Road Atlanta the local Ferrari club would basically hire the Porsche club to run a track day for them. We would work hard and earn enough to turn around and rent the track the next weekend for us. A good friend of mine owned a Ferrari Daytona. The 6th one ever made. I got a ride around the track in the Daytona. He was driving very carefully and double clutching every shift. Down the back straight we rand through the gears and when he hit 150 he said that was fast enough and let off. The next week in my 914 I slid through the corner and aligned up for the straight. I got up to 115 and got to the bridge and slowed way down for the turn. The Daytona had an extra 8 cylinders on my 914.
