1986 911 Cab Floor Insulation

Hello all, I just purchased a 1986 Cab, the previous owner had pulled up the carpets and laid down some carpet underlay. I pulled that off to discovery nice unmolested metal. My question is... was there no insulation or factory sound deadening installed on these cars between the metal and the carpet?
