Where was the black relay as i have had problems with my car.

Black relay is located on the left side of the engine compartment with the other rear relays. It was the only standard round one back there on this car.

Sometimes you just have to get back to basics.

Frequency valve is humming away, and it runs like a dream. After I swapped this relay. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604358799.jpg

Well there you go, Pelican will send you the bill for diagnosing the problem LOL. Glad to here it was a simple fix. Richard

:D

Thanks for the help, I appreciate the input. I’ve been hanging around here in the shadows for the better part of 20 years, usually a quick search sets me straight, I knew we would get it sorted.

Glad you found the culprit. I once unplugged my freq valve just for kicks to see if a person could tune around it. Not happening, as you've found out, runs wayyyy too lean.

My reason for trying this was to answer a what-if equation.....what if that freq valve should ever die? Finding a replacement might become a challenge.

Easy fixes are a wonderful thing.
Frequency valves / injectors are a fairly simple device but they do age or degrade with time like everything else. Should the valve itself die I would take that opportunity to rid myself of it and install a -037 Euro fuel distributor or have your -145 USA unit modified to delete the Lambda system and add more head room for mods. ;)

That's a hard line coming from the FD to the lambda valve. Can you simply replace the valve with a line that has the same fitting to have a straight-through pipe?

I had the same issue with my 91 turbo, except my relay is under the passenger seat!

I wish I would have come across this post earlier as it took me a few weeks of diagnosis and $700 in "tune up" up parts before I figured out the relay was bad. The entertaining part of my fun was I had a relay (which are a little spendy) in a spare parts pile the whole time.
